I am really looking forward to the BOB club that we are doing with ladies from church (book-of-the-bible).  I have joined a Bunko group and the same group wants to set up a regular Bible study.  My friend from high school, Brook, had a bunch of ladies over last Saturday for a "girl's night" and it was so much fun.  I have put in my notice for the end of November for work (I am super thrilled about this).  We are done with our foster care process (we just have to get carpet in our house and we get a kid).  I found someone who wants to learn Tennis, too.  So I finally get to learn...it is kind of hard to play tennis by yourself when you are learning.  I check out a bunch of books on "How to play Tennis" and an instructional DVD.  So, we will see how that goes.  Our domestic class kicks off this October with a sewing project (we will be sewer pajama bottoms for children at the shelter we volunteer at on Service Saturdays).  I am thrilled about the evangelistic focus the congregation has taken.  My husband gets to preach quite a bit over the next few weeks and he really enjoys that and it is pleasant to watch him do something he loves.  We have a great group of teens to work with and someday we will be able to allow them into our house again, once we have some furniture sitting up right to be sat in.  I have been taking time to read again.  I have finished all of Jane Austin's novels except Sense and Sensibility.  I grabbed a Mary Louise Alcott novel that I had never noticed before and then read about how she had been influenced by other authors and novels particularly Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, so, of course, that led to reading more of the Bronte sisters, which I used to not care for (although, I still found that I don't care for Wuthering Heights, BLECH!).  It has acutally been quite enjoyable, I really thought that I had read all of these before, but I really did miss a lot of these books.  But I still am rather fond of David Copperfield.  Like so many other things don't know why I cared for it so much, but I really liked it.  Anyway, now I need to retire all the secular classics and get ready for our bible study and bible book reading club.  I am so thrilled.

  • Can I be anymore neglectful?  So, it has been FOREVER since I wrote anything.  We are in the middle of FPTC (Future Preachers Training Camp).  It is encouraging to watch individuals grow during this week.  Some grow by leaps and bounds and others in minute increments (some barely visible), but there is always growth in all the guys.  And the training they are receiving is so valuable, for any Christian male.  They are learning important skills for study and sharing their faith.  I wish we had more willing to take advantage of such an amazing opportunity as this, but with the smaller numbers it is a bit easier to manage and contribute more individual time with those that require it.  This year we have thirteen or fourteen, I can't remember which.

The week before last was FTTC (Future Teachers Training Camp) for the girls.  That was one of the most encouraging weeks that I have experienced in a long, long time.  The girls were amazing and their attitudes could not have been better (and that is saying a lot).  They came out ready to absorb everything they could and to contribute all they were able.  They had so many brilliant ideas and possessed a hunger to glorify God and obvious aspirations to become the Christian women that he instructed us to be.  Although I was thankful for the weekend to be able to get some sleep, I really wished the week had gone on longer (and not just because it meant I had to go back to work or because my inflatable mattress was more comfortable than my bed at home).  I am really looking forward to next year's session.  Although, I don't know how we could top or even match this year's.

The above book is about my Uncle Bruce who served in WWII.  It is comprised of letters that he wrote to family members and a smattering of postcards and letters that loved ones wrote him.  The title came from a post card that my Daddy wrote him while he was at boot camp in service.  It has been so much fun to read and get a bit of insight into my family.  I have read about the grandparents and great grandparents that everyone talks about at family reunions but that I never knew because I was a late-in-life kid, the youngest of my generation.  I have so many questions for my dad and his only serviving brother, Uncle Dick (originally there were four boys).

Allan reminded me today about Xanga.  It has been some time since I have posted, so I thought that I ought to at least acknowledge that I am alive.  Busy, busy, busy...until this weekend.  With the snow and ice, practically everything was cancelled so I had a span of time in which I could be home.  A great opportunity that I have just been waiting for to catch up on housework and basic maintenance projects around the house that have been neglected lately.  So, since I had all this time FINALLY (the first in a long while), I got to it and watched DVDs the WHOLE TIME!!!  Okay, I am  slacker, I know.  I really enjoyed the "veg" time.  It seems like a while since I have had such luxury and the last thing I wanted to do was be productive.  Alas, I am not sorry, unless someone tried to come over then I would be extremely embarrassed .  So, I had probably better get on the ball during the evenings.  Perhaps, I will go for the 15-minute method.  Do something productive for 15 minutes (fold clothes, pick up a room, vacuum, etc...).  Then take a break for 5-10 minutes then do 15 more minutes.  I am almost done with the Highlander series (poor Allan has had to suffer though it, but I thought he would watch it with me since he is the Highlander buff--of course, this way I can fast forward through the embarrassingly yucky intimate scenes and the "quickenings" that take up an unneccessarily long time plus you get the same point in fast forward).  So, I can probably incorporate my time offs and 15-minutes on with the viewings, perhaps.

I either popped out or bruised a rib this weekend.  It is rather tender.  I need to schedule a day, probably in March, to go to all of the doctor's appts I have been neglecting (eye doctor I was supposed to see in December; dentist I was supposed to see in November of 2004; chiropractor I was supposed to see every two weeks or every month...it's been so long I can't remember; and, of course, the regular annual check-up that we girls all look forward to).   Must jet...get back to the big peoples' world of making a business run. Ring, ring...the phone tolls for me.  YEAH!!!  Just got a call from a sales guy...not a usual situation to be followed by rejoicing...but I previously had called and complained about the copier we just leased from them (our previous copier decided to give up the ghost and our KS regional supervisor never wants the headache of owning equipment again, only lease) and they got me a bigger model with a much better deal at $2 less a month--full service for 3yrs/$1 buy out (and they were my next to lowest bid to start with out of the six companies that I interviewed).

Wow!  What a weekend.  Saturday morning we made breakfast for the students who take Bible classes each Saturday morning.  Thank you for all your help Kayla...you are a life saver.  We could not have gotten all done without your help.

Then Kayla and I picked up the few odds and ends needed for the babysitting that afternoon-"Holiday Helpers."  We found a great craft project for the kids.  We swirled the acrylic paint inside of glass decorative balls for the Christmas Tree.  They came out really well.

So we babysat from Noon until 4:00pm to give the parents some kid-free time before the holidays (for shopping, a date, to clean house, etc...).  We had so much help.  The teens really came through for us.  Thank you to all of you that helped.  We had a great time and the kids really enjoyed themselves.  You all can be proud of yourselves for the work that you did on Saturday.  I KNOW the parents appreciated it.

Sunday, after services, we had a delightful lunch with an elder and his wife.  Then I had to spend the afternoon at work, but I leased an apartment so it was really worth the time that I invested.  Upon arriving home (with not much time to spare) we quickly cleaned up a motorcycle so that our friend, David, could pick it up on Monday (it will have a better home with him than we could give it).  At 4:00 we took the bus to Muskogee to Teen Topics and heard Willie Franlin speak.  Eleven of the teens showed up.  I am very thankful for those that showed up.  I am sorry for those that missed out on a very good time.

After getting back, I needed to go shopping for company coming over for dinner Monday night.  It turns out that they will be unable to join us.  I was looking forward to spending time with them, but I also was trying to figure out how I was going to get everything ready while I was at work today.  Well, no worries or fretting here.  Maybe, I will get to make some apple bread.
